Hi folks,

My name is Vinicius Alves (people call me Vinny) and I've been having fun with programming since Matt Wright's wwwboard back in 1998. Ok, that app wasn't fun, but that's about when I started programming.

I'm self taught in several programming languages, mostly web oriented (PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, SQL) but I get my greatest kick out of Perl - the very first language I dwelt in, and the reason for this Blog's title (read this if you're curious).

Since 1998, I've engaged in a few entrepreneurial attempts which provided me with a HUGE learning experience (most specifically regarding the Linux/Unix world), which landed me in IBM - my current employer. My experience in IBM showed me that there's lots we can share - and learn - every day, so I decided to create this blog.

Being a Gaúcho (people born in the southern-most state of Brazil), I also enjoy cooking (and eating) BBQs, gaúcho style (several kinds of meat, salted with rock salt and roasted on spits).  ; D
